How to Apply Edible Cake Wraps
Edible cake wraps (also called edible image wraps) are designed to give your cake a clean, professional finish with minimal effort. For best results, focus on smooth sides, correct sizing, and gentle handling.
What you’ll need
-
A fully chilled cake with smooth sides (buttercream or ganache)
-
Clean scissors / craft knife (for trimming if needed)
-
A light mister spray bottle (water)
-
Optional: a fondant panel if you prefer applying the wrap onto fondant first
Storage (before use)
Keep your cake wrap flat, sealed, and stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Choose the right size first
Check your cake diameter and side height before ordering/applying. If your cake is taller than the wrap height, you may need an additional sheet/strip.

Application methods
Method A: Apply to fondant first (cleanest + most forgiving)
-
Roll your fondant to the desired thickness.
-
Lightly mist the area where the wrap will sit (do not over-wet).
-
Carefully peel the edible image from its backing sheet.
-
Lay it onto the fondant and smooth gently.
-
Apply the decorated fondant to the cake and wrap/secure.
Method B: Apply directly to buttercream/ganache (fastest)
-
Make sure cake sides are smooth and lightly set (not wet/tacky).
-
Lightly mist the cake side or the back of the wrap (very lightly).
-
Peel from backing and position carefully.
-
Smooth gently from the centre outward to remove air bubbles.
Best practice: if applying directly to buttercream or ganache, aim to serve/consume the cake the same day for the best finish.
Humidity tips (important)
In high humidity, the wrap may be harder to separate from the backing sheet. Try one of the following:
-
Gently roll the backing sheet over the edge of a counter/table to help loosen it.
-
Or place the sheet flat in the freezer for 30–90 seconds, then try peeling again.
Notes before you apply
-
Slight colour variation between screens and printed edible images can occur.
-
If your wrap is supplied as multiple strips, align the seam at the back of the cake and trim carefully for a neat join.
